first picture new ektachrome
I spotted this image on Twitter(with permission of my friends from Gotham Photochemical) that shows the new super8 ektachrome type 7294 colour reversal film that we are all waiting for. This new product isn't for sale at Kodak but it is a good sign that there is a test example to show to the public. Now there is nothing more we can do than simply wait again for what's coming :-)
Click on the image for a large version and then you can see the new Kodak number '7294' for the first time.

kodak camera 2018
Kodak released an update on the new super8 camera: `It will be released somewhere in 2018 and the sales prices is between $2500 en $3000`. On the Facebook page of this lab people comment that this is way too much money for a super8 camera. And I must admit I agree on this point of view. I understand that is takes a lot of effort and energy to produce a new camera. Kodak will have a hard time because they are going to combine old and modern techniques into this super8 cam. But to ask so much money is a pitty because there are a lot of cheaper camera's out there that do a fine job. The miss the LCD viewfinder and the USB flash audio recording but then again it save about 40 cartrdiges of un-exposed film . Click the image for an enlargement.

meeting nicola baldini from film ferrania
During the symposium I had a chance to speak with Nicola Baldini from Film Ferrania a few times. He is a very kind man and is very enthusiastic about experimental filmmakers and artists. Did you know mister Baldini is a filmmaker himself? So the most important question I had was about the return of colour reversal film (I participated in the kickstarter project). The answer was that `it is going to take more time`. Who knows how long? Anyway we simply wish Film Ferrania good luck and it was definitly a pleasure to meet him in person. film in the present tense
Today starts in Berlin an international symposium about the current situation and the future of film. Does film still have a place our world that becomes more and more digital orientated only. In three day`s time a variety of interesting speakers and people from the practice share their ideas and know-how. I look forward to this and I am here as public to witness it all. A cool long weekend Berlin :-).
Please read this extended PDF file with all ins and out.

This years summer vacation starts on Saturday 19th August and ends on Sunday 10th September. Make sure your packages arrive before or after these dates as there will be nobody to collect them. I use this oppertunity to tell you that the turn-around times for film processing will increase due to the fact I receive many assignments, and you know I work alone.

super8 web portal kickstarter
I guess you know him: Jurgen Lossau. The man behind magazine Schmalfilm and later Small Format.
Well that was then and this is now. So Jurgen came up with the idea to start a website that is based on a subscribtion. That website is like the magazine`s he used to make but much more expanded, and very important up to date. You could support this idea and fund the kickstarter project he created. You can at least take a simple 1 year subscription to see if you like it, why not? Doesn`t hurt you. Let`s all start something new together. Click the image to see more pictures.

Work by Fernando Pessoa and Lichun Tseng with her recent 35mm The captured light of an instant, and Jérome Schlomoff made a film with a pinhole camera. Celluloid avant la lettre in Audition by Esther Urlus or see a cheerful dadaïstic Haar borsten popten als puisten which was made by Carlijn Fransen, who also signed for De eenzame eenheid. What have these films in common? Well they are all captured on analogue (8, 16, 35mm) celluloid film. That hasn’t anything to do with nostalgia. This episode of Te gast bij Ruimtevaart, was programmed by Super B and guest programmer Frank Bruinsma with thanks to Anna Abrahams and Nico Bunnik.

film ferrania black/white
With this video Film Ferrania from Italy introduces their first product; a black/white negative still film. How fantastic is that? This filmstock will only be available in still film formats, but that doesn`t matter. They show they can make emulsion and now it is only a few steps away from making our colour reversal film for super8. On their website it says that in June/July 2017 we will get the so desired colour reversal film. I can`t wait!

In 1993 I made a short 3 minute film on the super8 format with the title `the hand`. Now after 23 years this short film will be screened in a compilation programm called `borderless` at the famous International Film Festival Rotterdam, also known as IFFR, on 28th January 2017. It is a true honor that my short film will be screened there and it is by coincidence that it came that far. If you want you can order tickets for the programm that starts at 15.30 hours in KINO cinema in Rotterdam.
With thanks to Karel Doing and Pip Chodorov. Click the small thumbnail for a larger still of `the hand`.

If you give yourself about half an hour to listen to this podcast by Kodak you learn a lot. It is the story `from nothing to the actual production`. Kodak`s own super8 people that were closely involved by the production tell their story. The podcast gives a good idea how Kodak is thinking. Click on the logo for the podcast at soundcloud.

informative kodak camera preview
This short video shows the new super8 Kodak camera that will be released soon. I read that the first `limited edition` camera series will cost $2000 and there will be only 2000 camera`s available. I guess that is one way to make super8 for the rich and famous people only. Kodak says they will release a cheaper model later.

kodak returns with ektachrome 100D
What a great way to start 2017 people. Via this kodak press release they let us know that by the end of this year we can shoot on their famous Ektachrome 100D colour reversal stock again. The last production of Ektachrome took place in 2012. It will be released in the super8 format. Kodak says that they do this because of customer demand, there's a large request for high quality colour rerversal film and that's why they bring it back. It's a gift for all super8 film makers around the world that we can expose this great colour reversal film. I call it 'super8 filming the way it is supposed to be.' After you get the film back from the lab you can screen it with a movie projector on your wall. Simply wonderfull. Click the logo for a larger version.
