The super8 films
you see below are sold via this lab. Kodak still continues
to produce new and fresh super8 cartridges! All the stories that you can read on the internet that super8 is outdated and out of fashion is not true. Many regular photo shops stopped selling super8 because the majority of the people switched to digital video. Now these photo shops say that s8 is dead but they are wrong. We know better! Read here the Kodak super8 pages. And today there are more companies that re-pack exsisting Kodak cartridges or even make their own super8 carts.
Vision-3
Kodak made their new color negative emulsion Vision-3 series also available for the super8 cartridges. This shows very clearly that the major company from Rochester USA believes that super8 is a valuable film format for the future. The Vision-3 200T and the Vision-3 500T are available at this moment and we can also process it as the only lab in The Netherlands (ask for conditions).
Ektachrome 100D
We used to have E40, E160 or Ektachrome 64T, and now we have Ektachrome 100D. A very nice film and very popular also because of the low price.
Kodachrome
Original K40 super8 films are history as you might know by now. rolls anymore. And I have to mention that it's truely sad that K40 had to end. Read an article in the New York Times here.
Re-package
Besides 4 original Kodak manufactored super8 films the lab also sells Wittner super8 films. These films are either re-packed or manufactored by themselve. These products could be made in co-operation with GK-Film Germany, Retro Enterprises Japan, Pro8mm USA or Spectra Film & Video USA. Of course we will never know and therefore here info about Wittner Cinetec.
New cartridges
German company GK-Film is making new super8 cartridges that they sell under the brand name Cinevia. Everybody that has interest in this new product can contact the manufactorer GK-Film. You can also order Cinevia via this website. At this moment Cinevia films are sold in Kodak cartridges.
Advise
In general I would like to give some comment about film exposure. If you want a good result do not underexpose or overexpose super8 films. It is very difficult [impossible] to fix exposure mistakes in the post production. If you shoot on reversal film stock complete black and complete white means that there is no information at all on your emulsion. So you can not fix it when you scan the material.
There is the possibility to get the films push/pull processed by this lab. Although this is free of charge I can not recommend it. One thing that can happen is that not all the rolls are exactly the same after a push/pull process. Also you are changing the grain of the material. Underexposed film get a higher contrast and overexposed films will become more grey and get a lower contrast. In all situations you'll get a different filmlook.
For more on this subject visit the chemical test pages on this website.
Super8 notch
Some articles on the wikipedia are very usefull like this one. It's a super8 notch ruler checker so that you can check you're model if it can auto-expose all types of super8 or not :-) Of course Kodak also has info about the cartridge notches.
